Citrix Session Stuck Open "Hung"

Image
Session Troubleshooting (or how to manually kill your own Citrix session) What is a disconnected session? Are you getting the "App is not available?"  Or maybe the "you have the license has reached its limit?"  Sometimes called a "hung" session, this refers to a connection to an application that remains running on the server even though it has ended on your computer.  This can prevent you from being able to launch that application again until that session is fully ended. Do I have a disconnected session? The main symptom for you will be the inability to launch an application.  Your experience may include:    -       “I just see the spinny thing” (the spinning wheel under the icon) *    -       “When I click on the icon nothing happens”    -       “I KEEP clicking on the icon and nothing happens”    -    ...

IPAD SAVED FROM THEFT!

Image
IPAD SAVED FROM THEFT! Thank you Apple, AT&T and AirWatch!  Here is an exciting story of an iPad that got saved.   One of my co-workers was pumping gas at a convenience store.  On this occasion, he did not lock his vehicle as he customarily does.  During this time his door was opened and his brief case which contained his iPad was stolen.  It was stolen while he was right next to the vehicle.  He drove off without knowing it was missing.  The next morning, he realized that his briefcase and iPad were missing.  He immediately called the IT department.  Right move!   Given that we employ Find My Device, AirWatch and cellular SIM cards in our devices, we started out by seeing if the iPad was even on.  To our surprise, it was on and was right there on the screen showing the location!  So, now was this really showing us the correct location?  The location kept jumping from across the road and b...

Windows 10 Home or Pro Password Reset

Image
WINDOWS 10 HOME OR PRO PASSWORD RESET I was working on an HP Windows 10 laptop the other day and was removing some of the unwanted bloat on the computer.  It also had a handful of malware on it.  I proceeded to uninstall the unwanted programs and thought I had finished. Shutdown the computer and handed it back to the customer.  Subsequently, she called and said "I can't get into the laptop.  Did you change the password?" I replied, "No, I didn't change the password.  It must be a virus or the way Windows 10 links into your Microsoft account. Bring it back and I will figure it out."   I literally could not get into this laptop to save my life.  I tried the original password.  I tried her current MS account password.  Had her change the MS account password only.  Still no luck!  Another caveat was that not only could we not login but also there was no network card or wireless network card showing.  So no ...

When your COM+ Event System is missing from Services

Image
I was attempting to install a 3rd party software on a server that was already serving other applications.  The 3rd party software failed on installation and then subsequent issues started with my backup software that was on the particular server. After researching the issue, I discovered that one of the dependencies for the backup software was in fact missing from the Services list.  After referencing multiple out-of-date articles I did find that you could copy the hive from one working server to another to resolve the issue.  I was able to export the EventSystem hive from the HKLM>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>services>Eventsystem and import onto the errant server. After a quick reboot the service reappeared in the Services list and I was able to perform my backups.  As for the 3rd party software, they will have to make an effort to assure me that the installer is without error moving forward. Update: the backup software has been performing without error. ...
